Can ya help a sista out? Again?

Thank you so much for the overwhelming amount of support and suggestions! Y'all are just grand. And it's such a joy to know people actually read my blog. And care! So thank you.

Can ya help a sista out again?

Please? With a cherry on top?

This time it's not so dramatic.
Or important.
Or life changing.
Or really anything like that.

Mostly I'm really indecisive.

And I also want a Kitchenaid. For Christmas. But probably bought on or around Black Friday since I might find a deal.
Or maybe I already found a couple deals and just can't decide.

Can you see where this is going...?

Do you have a Kitchenaid? (stand mixer)

If not, please quietly wipe away your tears and exit your browser.
If yes, please continue to the next question.

Do you like your Kitchenaid?

If no, please don't ever read my blog again.

JUST KIDDING!!

What kind of Kitchenaid do you have?
How big?
What size bowl?
What power motor?
What model? (classic, artisan, pro, classic plus, ultra power)
Does it work well beating bread dough?
Does it have problems with cookie dough or any kind of other dough?

In your honest opinion, does it make a difference whether the motor is 275 watts, 350 watts, or 575 watts?
In your honest opinion, would you pay a little more for the 575 watts? Including a 6 qt bowl vs. a 4.5 qt bowl?
In your honest opinion, would you pay $40 extra to have a big, powerful, snazzy red one instead of the $180 white one?
Or would you save that $40, buy some cute shoes, and decide you really don't need the snazzy red one with the bells and whistles because you're really not a professional chef? (And just search for a red one that's $180 and less powerful)

This is the part where you comment.
Now.
With your answers.

Obrigada.

I may reward you with cookies.

If you live near me.
maybe.

  1. I have a bosch mixer, I love it. You can make a lot more at once with it, it's really heavy duty. My mom had a kitchen aid and I loved using it growing up. Both are really good mixers.

  2. LOVE my Kitchen Aid. Get the 6 qt. I have the 4 qt and I'll definitely upgrade eventually. There's been many times I could have used the bigger bowl. Either way though you'll love it.

  3. I have the standard little white Classic Plus Kitchen Aid. I really do love it, but can't answer all your questions because I didn't research it that much. I got it last Black Friday at Sears.

There are 2 things about it that kept me from getting one long before I did. 1 - the blade doesn't go all the way to the bottom. I solved that problem by getting a different mixer part with some rubber on the edges so it will scrape the sides. Someone just gave it to me, so I don't know where she got it, but I use my Kitchen Aid much more than I have that. The other thing is that you kind of have to stop it to add ingredients because the bowl isn't that big (maybe with the 6qt that wouldn't happen?).

Other than that, it's SO handy. I've really only used it for basic things (cookies, brownies, cake, etc). I think the only bread dough I've done is pizza dough, and the hook thing works really well for it. We also like the attachments that you can get - we have the cheese grater, and it's really cool.

I would have liked to have a color one, but in the end I just didn't want to spend the extra money. The white hasn't gotten dirty like I thought it might.

  4. I'd definitely go as big as you can afford. If you want to upgrade later, you'll never get what you paid out of it so you won't have as much to put towards a bigger one!

  5. I wish mine was the bigger bowl size, so I'd go with the bigger one. I have occasionally had trouble with the motor, but only when I have over-filled the bowl. I have a red one and I love it! I would keep an eye out for black Friday deals, maybe you can get any color you want for the same price!

  6. i'm not going to be much help because i don't know my bowl size or what the motor is, but i can tell you i love having it :) i got a black one for my bridal shower 6 years ago and it's definitely been used A LOT! i grew up with my mom using her kitchen aid a lot, so it's what i'm used to. i've always had one around, always thought they were awesome, and i think they hold up really well. good luck with your decision! i'm sure you won't regret getting one :)

  7. I have a Kitchen Aid, and I wish it was a Bosch. I had one, it was 25 yrs old, and was still better than my Kitchen Aid. But sadly, it died. How people make bread in their regular mixers I do not know!

  8. Here's my experience...A few years ago Paul got me the Sunbeam mixer 450 watts, rotating big bowl and tilt head mixer. It was about $170, and it lasted for about a year. The motor burned out while making 7 minute bakers frosting. For a while I've been using a hand held mixer while hoping for a kitchenaid mixer.

Finally just this past mother's day, Paul bought me one. I picked it out from Costco and I love it! It's 575 watts. I love the lift stand, the bowl is huge, I love the big attachments. It even came with an ice cream maker attachment on top of the $50 off from Costco. I've made bread with it, and all sorts of desserts and such. It's nice to be able to walk away when making 7 minute frosting. The attachments (Paddle, whisk, and dough hook) are metal and they're not dishwasher safe. You can also adjust how far down you want the attachments to go get the bottom if you want. The only thing I don't like about it is that there's only 1 paddle, and 3 girls who all want to lick it:)

If you want, you're welcome to come get mine and borrow it for a day or two and give it a test drive if you'd like. I know Costco has them on sale again:)

  9. Oh man, if I had money for a Bosch I'd totally get one!!! They're about twice as much as the Kitchenaids though. Definitely better, I know. For now I'll just stick with the Kitchenaid. Seems like the consensus is spend a little more to get the bigger one. I think that's a good idea. Thanks for the input guys!

  10. Yeah, definitely spend more to get the best model you can. You definitely won't regret it, but you might regret it if you don't! Also, as much as my heart pines for the AWESOME colors they have now, I think sticking with white, stainless, or black will give you the most longevity. Unless you are eternally devoted to the bright orange and would design every kitchen from this day forth around it. Or maybe that's just me...

  11. Hi! Ok, here my two cents worth. I have a Bosch and LOOOOOOVE it! It makes the best Dodds Family chocolate chip cookies! Which is basically why Jim bought it for me... I don't know the motor size or anything, but I would go with the biggest motor and biggest bowl size. Then you won't have to upgrade later. Good luck & I hope you can find a smashing deal out there on one!

  12. My only contribution to your dilemma is that my mom has a Bosch mixer and it has been with since the beginning of her marriage and it works well for all kinds of dough as long as you use the correct attachment.
However I understand if you have your heart set on a Kitchen Aid. As far as the paying for the more expensive red on I think I would just get the cheaper white one and then put some fun decal/Vinyl on it like in this picture: http://www.thehouseofsmithsdesigns.com/product/mixer-decals
